It's become arguably even harder to learn than C++," Andreessen said. And the mantle of simplicity is being passed on: "PHP is such is an easier environment to develop in than Java."

I personally also tend to share this view, that java evolved in a way more complicated than was really neccessary.
This is a pity, because, I believe Java is a very nice language.
